The Climate Warehouse services voluntary market retailers and resellers and is founded on the premise that taking steps to mitigate climate change is a responsibility for each and every one of us. We help to make this possible by enabling our clients and our clients’ clients to help fund projects around the world that reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, by purchasing offsets and retiring them.
The idea behind offsetting is simple. You calculate the emissions associated with an activity, reduce where you can by changing the way you do things and then purchase and retire offsets – take them permanently out of circulation – to neutralise the remainder. Our offsets often come from small, sustainable projects with exciting stories, helping to fund more environmentally-friendly (and lower emission) development options. They also come from large companies where individuals, as employees, are doing their part in a world where everyone needs to contribute to solving the problem of climate change.
Many of the most exciting project ideas don’t fall within formal emissions trading schemes and so don’t get financed. By making a commitment to these projects and bringing the offsets to our clients, the Climate Warehouse helps implement innovative, local projects that would otherwise stay on the drawing-board.
